Municipal Youth Councils

A youth council is a city-created group, usually made up of high school students, designed to engage young people in local government and elevate youth voices in the community. Some councils advise elected officials on youth-related issues, while others lead or support youth-driven initiatives.

Youth councils promote meaningful civic engagement and build stronger connections between students and local leaders. They give students a firsthand look at how cities work while fostering leadership, responsibility, and public service. The Florida League of Cities supports these efforts with year-round programs and resources to help cities start or grow their own youth councils.
