At the League, our members guide our policy development and municipal priorities. Each year, municipal officials from across the state volunteer to serve on the League’s legislative committees. This member-driven policy process ensures that municipal policies reflect the needs, values, and priorities of the communities they serve.
Policy Committees
Members of the League’s five policy committees discuss a wide range of municipal concerns that might come before the Legislature or have already appeared and decide on priority issues and policy positions. FLC’s legislative policy committees set the Legislative Platform for the League and Florida’s cities.
The Advocacy Committee builds support among FLC members and the Legislature for the legislative priorities adopted by the League. The Advocacy Committee contacts state lawmakers to advocate for the FLC Legislative Platform and other key issues. It also assesses the municipal impact of legislation and provides strategic direction to the League’s lobbying initiatives.
Home Rule Hero Award recipients are local government officials, both elected and nonelected, who consistently respond to the League’s request to reach out to members of the Legislature and help give a local perspective on important issues.
