Sexual Harassment (Watch)

SB 240 (Book) amends the Florida Code of Ethics to address sexual harassment by public officers, public employees, candidates for office, and state executive and legislative branch lobbyists. The bill defines “sexual harassment” and prohibits a public officer, public employee, candidate or lobbyist from sexually harassing any individual, regardless of whether an employment relationship exists. The bill specifies penalties for lobbyists who are found to have violated provisions of the law, including public censure and reprimand, civil penalties not to exceed $10,000, and a prohibition from lobbying for a specified period. Public officers, employees and candidates found to have violated the law would be subject to existing penalties as specified in the Code of Ethics for Public Officers and Employees, Chapter 112, Florida Statutes.
