General Information
Quality Cities, formerly Florida Municipal Record, was established in 1928. It is published six times per year for municipal officials in the State of Florida and has a circulation of more than 4,400.

Quality Cities regularly reports on legislation impacting cities, current issues affecting municipalities and innovative local government ideas. Regular features include Quality Floridian, Report from City Hall, and Attorney General's Opinions.

    Rates
    Rate Definition
    Rates are for space only and are based on the total number of units of space used within a 12-month period. One page is the largest space unit; a spread counts as two one-page units.

    Short Rates and Rebates
    Rates are based on the total space units used in a 12-month period from the date of first insertion. If advertising is discontinued by mutual agreement before completion of contract, short rates for space used apply.

    Quality Cities reserves the right to reject any advertisement. Responsibility for claims and actions based on ad content is borne by the advertiser.

    Color Charges
    PMS Colors – All colors are four-color process, so that a required PMS will be a “match of” your PMS – $175.00 extra per color per page.
    Four-Color Process – $500.00 extra per spread per insertion for one to five insertions, or $350 extra per spread per insertion for a six-insertion contract. Advertiser must furnish us with a digital file.

    Cover Positions
    Second, third and fourth cover – $100.00 extra. Color rates also apply to covers.

    Inserts, Gate Folds, Tip-Ins
    Rates and mechanical requirements for other units such as inserts, gate folds and tip-ins on request.

    Prepayment Discount
    5 percent on payment with order.

    Agency Commission
    15 percent of gross billing to agencies recognized by Quality Cities if payment is received in our office within 45 days of the invoice date.

    Publication Date
    Quality Cities is published bi-monthly: January/February, March/April, May/June, July/August (conference issue), September/October, November/December. For each issue (except May/June) the magazine is published the first day of the second month. For example, the January/February issue is published February 1. The May/June issue contains a legislative wrap-up and is published around mid-June.

    Advertising Closing Dates
    Reservation and Material Closing Dates
    Fifteenth of the month preceding the date of issue (except for May/June and July/August issues). The reservation and material closing date for the May/June issue is April 30. The closing date for the July/August issue is June 1.

    Cancellation Policy
    No cancellations accepted after the closing date for material. In the event advertising copy is not received by the material closing date, the advertiser will still be responsible for the cost of contracted space.

    Printing Specifications
    Three-column page: each column 2-3/8" (13 picas) x 9-1/4" (56 picas) deep.
    Offset lithography: 70 lb. enamel coated, saddlestitched.

    Advertising Material
    Supply in order of preference:
    1) Digital – may be sent on 100/250 MB zip disks (zip disk will be returned on request), on CD, via e-mail or on a floppy disk. Layouts are accepted from any of the following applications in PC format.
  • Adobe InDesign CS
  • Adobe PageMaker – version 6.5/7.0

  • Adobe Photoshop CS (EPS or TIFF, flattened)

  • Adobe Illustrator CS (fonts as outline)

  • Adobe PDF – fonts embedded

  • If you do not use the above applications, please call the publications department at (850) 222-9684 or
    contact the graphic designer. Mac versions will be accepted if they are saved on an IBM formatted disk. Type 1 Adobe fonts are preferred. Substitutions will be necessary for other fonts. Please include all screen and printer fonts as well as all art files (EPS or TIFF format). Call for additional information for color printing. When sending a digital file, provide a hard copy (composite and separated proof) with your file.
    2) Camera ready/veloxes – will be accepted if printed at a minimum of 1,200 dpi. Extra charges may apply for in-house adjustments.
    3) Negatives – require a positive output and outsourced digitizing. We will provide this service.

    Professional-quality, glossy prints need instructions for cropping, outlining, etc. Photographs may also be sent digitally. Do not specify the line screen (lpi), angle or dot shape as these settings will be configured through the service provider.

    Charges Billed to Advertiser
  • Cost of express mail charged to recipient.

  • Cost of digitizing camera-ready, veloxes and/or negatives and half-tones (price subject to size).

  • Ad preparation/design (in-house) $40.00 per hour. Minimum 1/2 hour.

  • Digitizing camera-ready copy. Outsourced charges depend on ad size.


  • All supplied advertising material will be destroyed within one year after last use unless previously instructed otherwise. Our primary printing source is direct-to-plate printing.

    Advertising Contract and Payment Policies
    Each company will be required to sign a Quality Cities advertising contract before the first ad appears in Quality Cities and at the beginning of each new contract year. First-time advertisers must make payment for their first advertisement at the time advertising materials are submitted (by material closing date). All subsequent ads must be paid for within 45 days of invoice dates.

    Any advertising account that becomes 60 days past due will automatically forfeit further advertising until account is brought up to date.

    Have an Idea for an Article?
    We are interested in articles written by city officials, or by federal or state government officials on state or federal programs of interest to League members.

    We do not feature or promote a company’s products or services in editorial copy - for such promotions please contact the
    editor.

    Before you begin writing, we recommend that you call us to discuss your story idea, or e-mail a brief overview of the article to us. You can reach the editor, Beth Mulrennan, by phone at (850) 222-9684 or by e-mail.

    What We're Looking For:
  • Features that cover several dimensions of a strategic issue.

  • Short items showcasing city success stories.

  • Articles that review a state or federal program that would be of interest to Florida’s municipal governments.

  • See our editorial calendar for scheduled topics.


  • Follow These Guidelines
    Keep length to 1,000 words or less for a feature article; 400 words or less for short items.

    For articles from city officials:
  • Use practical examples

  • Use quotes from key people involved in the project or issue

  • Include tips for municipal officials interested in doing something similar in their city


  • For articles on federal and state programs:
  • Provide an overview of the program or project

  • Review how Florida cities can participate

  • Give contact information, including a name, telephone number, e-mail address and Web site


  • For all articles:
  • Provide author's name, title, organization and contact info

  • Make a note of your deadline and plan accordingly


  • Photo Requirements
  • Digital photos must be 300 ppi (pixels per inch) resolution, saved as a TIFF file or a high resolution JPEG. Images taken from the Web (72 ppi) are not suitable for print

  • Provide information for each photo: identify who, what, where, when

  • If required by the photographer, please include photo credit information
