September 1998
  • President David Rigsby presents concept for International Relations Component for FLC.


  • November 1998
  • FLC Board of Directors approves President Rigsby’s concept as International Relations Committee.


  • March 1999
  • International Relations Committee appointments announced.


  • April 1999
  • First organizational meeting for International Relations Committee held in Orlando.


  • June 1999
  • Orlando Mayor Glenda Hood, chairman of the committee, presides over meeting which works on committee goals and vision statement.


  • August 1999
  • Committee meets and approves final draft of mission statement, objectives and strategies.


  • October 1999
  • FLC Board of Directors approves mission and vision statements, consulting agreement with Nat M. Turnbull, Jr.


  • February 2000
  • Committee meets in conjunction with and attends Florida Department of State’s International Days, of which FLC is a sponsor.

  • Activities timeline presented to FLC Executive Committee.


  • March 2000
  • International page established on FLC Web site.


  • April 2000
  • Activities timeline presented to FLC Board, receives approval.

  • Four-member delegation attends IULA World Conference in Merida, Mexico.


  • May 2000
    Committee meets in conjunction with and attends Orlando International Summit.

  • Two-member delegation attends Inter-American Conference of Mayors in Miami.

  • Inaugural International Academy, Basic Course, held in Orlando.


  • February 2001
  • Committee meets in conjunction with and attends Florida Department of State’s International Days, of which FLC is a sponsor. Attendance by conference call initiated.


  • May 2001
  • Two-member delegation attends IULA World Conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

  • Inaugural International Round Table held in Port Orange.

  • Three-member delegation attends Federation of Canadian Municipalities Conference in Banff, Alberta. FCM/FLC international working agreement proposed.

  • Committee staff members meet with International Task Force of National League of Cities to present International Academy concept.


  • June 2001
  • Four-member delegation attends Inter-American Conference of Mayors, Miami.

    August 2001
  • FLC Annual Conference: International Relations Committee meets in Orlando, August 25.


  • October 2001
  • Second International Academy, Basic Course, in Tampa, October 5-6.

  • International Round Tables held in Inverness, Melbourne and Sarasota.

  • Two-member delegation attends IULA Meeting in Turin, Italy.
