International Relations Success Story
City of Dunedin
Commissioner Janet Henderson of the City of Dunedin submitted a project in which she worked with Schiller International University and the Pinellas County Sheriffs Department to conduct a forum for foreign students, assuring them of their welcome and safety in the community.

Following the events of September 11, 2001, many international students were worried about becoming victims of reprisals. During a Rotary Club meeting at which Commissioner Henderson spoke with university Campus Director Dr. Christolph Leibrecht and became aware of student concerns in this area, she suggested such a meeting and offered her help.

Held on September 25, 2001, the forum offered students a welcome to Dunedin, safety precautions, and an opportunity to share their thoughts and concerns. Following the meeting, voluntary student contributions were collected. These were matched by the university and sent to the American Red Cross to help with relief efforts in New York City.
