Senior Resource Directory –
City of DeLand

The City of DeLand Senior Council compiled information about emergency services, housing, health care, personal safety, prescription drugs, medical equipment and support groups. Then, they created a booklet with phone numbers and locations of these services. The booklet is called the Senior Resource Directory, and more than 5,000 copies were printed and distributed in the community. This booklet is pertinent to seniors and the issues they face.

Annual Intergenerational Week –
City of Dunedin

Dunedin’s annual Intergenerational Week is part of the city’s commitment to the “Communities for a Lifetime” initiative. The week brings public awareness to the value of intergenerational relationships by creating programs that bring together people of all ages. Events include building an intergenerational float for the holiday parade; a grandparent/grandchildren library program; a nursing home and after-school program partnership with social and crafts activities; and an intergenerational trivia game night and a pizza party for teens and adults. The week highlights a community in which every citizen, regardless of age, has a place of importance in the life of the city.

The North West Focal Point Senior Center –
City of Margate

The North West Focal Point Senior Center was founded in 1976, and has twice moved to larger locations to meet the increased demand for senior services in northwest Broward County. The current location, just one block south of Margate City Hall, opened in 1989 and serves about 200 members each day. Nearly 100 volunteers and 38 staff administer programs. The mission of this center is to improve the quality of life for seniors by support services such as recreational, educational and social activities. Upon joining, members are given a blood pressure and health-care screening with a registered nurse. Members receive an ID card that can be helpful to family, friends and public safety officials in the event of an emergency.
