2008 City Innovations Showcase
First published in 1988, the City Innovations Showcase focuses on the “good things” Florida’s cities do to enhance services, save taxpayers’ money, promote civic pride and volunteerism, and meet local needs. The Showcase not only recognizes cities for their projects and programs, it also serves as a resource for sharing these innovative ideas among our members.
In this edition, 45 cities have submitted project summaries on a variety of topics ranging from animal programs to safety and preparedness to technology, and everything in between. If you see a project you are interested in learning more about or replicating, contact information for that project is provided.

Published biannually, this 14th Showcase features 203 entries. These entries will be added to the more than 4,000 innovations featured in the previous 13 publications.
The theme for the 2008 City Innovations Showcase is “Cities Going Green,” demonstrating how cities are making a difference by embracing environmentally friendly projects and programs. A special “green” section begins the publication.
This theme complements Florida League of Cities President Frank C. Ortis’ platform for the year: protecting our environment. He said that “as municipal governments, we are in the unique position to implement and coordinate local initiatives that will lead to significant and real reductions in energy use and its impact on global warming.” He asks that all cities in Florida embrace this effort.
