City Innovations Showcase
2007 - 2008 City Innovations Showcase Call for Entries
It’s time to submit entries for the 2007 - 2008 City Innovations Showcase. The Florida League of Cities wants to hear about its members’ innovative programs, and will showcase them in this special publication. Those programs then will be added to the League’s resource base of municipal innovative ideas.

Cities are constantly coming up with unique ways to save money, enhance city services, respond to the needs of citizens and tackle challenges. The City Innovations Showcase is a place for cities to feature those programs and services that have worked well, and to share these great ideas with other cities!

Some of the past entries have featured animal programs; beautification and urban forestry; city/school partnerships; community revitalization; cultural activities; fire services; environmental awareness; health and safety; housing; law enforcement; library services; personnel; public relations; public works/transportation; recreation programs; technology; senior programs; special needs/disability programs; water, stormwater and wastewater management; and much more. The more great ideas we have, covering any subject that your city has dealt with, the better!

Since this is a cumulative project, please do not resubmit entries from previous years. Summaries should include a statement of the problem or need addressed, an explanation of the innovative solution, and a description of the results obtained. Please see the 2006 Showcase below for samples of past entries.

To submit your entry (or entries), download the 2007-08 Innovation Summary. Save the form on your computer, complete it and e-mail to Mandy Rogers. Please send one form per program per e-mail with the program’s respective photos (see photo guidelines).

Photo Guidelines – Please e-mail or mail magazine-quality photographs to accompany your summary (“instant” photos are not acceptable). Enclose a brief description of each photo submitted. Digital files should be 300 ppi (pixels per inch) resolution for print. We can accept .tif, .jpeg, .eps, .bmp and .psd files sent via e-mail, or on CD, Zip disk or floppy disk. If you have any questions concerning these requirements, please contact Stewart Nelson.

Submit all entries no later than Friday, November 5, 2007. You will receive a confirmation e-mail – if you do not get one, please check with Mandy. Mail submissions to: Florida League of Cities, Inc., P.O. Box 1757, Tallahassee, FL 32302-1757. For further information, call or e-mail Mandy at the League office, (850) 222-9684.

2006 Innovations Cover

2006 City Innovations Showcase

The City Innovations Showcase, first published in 1988, highlights the "good things" that Florida's cities are doing and provides a resource base of innovative ideas that encourages peer sharing. The end result benefits all Florida citizens, as municipal government officials and staff learn new ways to enhance services, save taxpayers' dollars, promote civic pride and volunteerism, and meet local needs.

Published on a bi-annual basis, this 13th Showcase features 150 programs. These entries will be added to the almost 4,000 innovations featured in the previous 12 publications.

The theme for the 2006 City Innovations Showcase is “Cities Leading the Way,” demonstrating how cities take the lead to provide numerous projects, programs and events.

The theme also reflects how cities have responded to the extremely active 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons. Almost every city in Florida was affected by at least one of many of the destructive hurricanes including Charley, Frances, Jeanne, Ivan, Wilma and Katrina. Several of the programs focus on hurricane and natural disaster preparation, while also reaching out to residents by providing information and services.
