    Because It Matters is a community-wide initiative to promote civility in workplaces, neighborhoods and civic organizations, and schools. It is a campaign to encourage citizens to communicate in a more respectful way, improving public discourse. In partnership with the Collins Center for Public Policy, the Because It Matters advisory committees developed a Fair Campaign Practice Pledge that supports the premise of the Because It Matters civility project and the Civility in Democracy series.

    The Florida Institute of Government (IOG) is a statewide institute established in 1981 by the Florida Legislature. The mission of the IOG is to increase the effectiveness and quality of government in Florida through applied research, training, technical assistance programs and public service. The IOG has extensive experience in developing and implementing training and research programs, services, and grant and contract administration activities involving federal, state and local governments, nonprofit organizations and the private sector.

    The Institute for Local Government promotes well-informed, ethical, inclusive, effective and responsive local government in California through innovative resources, tools and programs. It is the nonprofit research affiliate of the League of California Cities and the California State Association of Counties. The Institute's materials help city, county and special district officials.

    The Institute for Civility in Government is a grassroots, non-partisan, non-profit organization that aims to build civility in society. The Institute facilitates dialogue through Congressional Student Forums; engages groups (young and old) in the political process with trips to Washington, DC; and offers membership, speaking engagements and civility workshops.
