Civility in Public Office
Civility is a popular and varied topic among many organizations, associations and governments. For the purposes of the Florida League of Cities materials listed here, civility refers to the actions of the public and those in governing positions (elected and appointed) and how they best work together.

Many local governments have adopted civility pledges to ensure that the public, elected officials and staff have established reasonable rules for conducting public issues. These pledges provide great guidelines for use in tense situations. Topics include effective public discourse, rules for public meetings, mediation when discourse is not civil, creating civil dialogues for stressful or difficult subjects, training and readings on the subject matter. The FLC is committed to providing resources to its members regarding civility.
