Did You Know... Temple Terrace

Did you know the City of Temple Terrace is home to one of three remaining bat towers in the United States?

Between 1911-1925, as many as eight bat towers were built in the United States. The aim of these structures was to provide a home to bats in hopes that the bats would then destroy the mosquito population. Unfortunately, the towers were not successful and most fell into extreme disrepair. By the 1970s, only three of the original bat towers were known to be in existence, the Temple Terrace tower, a tower on Sugar Loaf Key, and a tower in San Antonio, Texas.
