Did You Know... Jupiter

Did you know the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse was the site of a Civil War battle?

The assistant lighthouse keeper scored a victory for the Confederacy when he hid important parts of the lens from his boss - a Union sympathizer. This scheme kept the head keeper from assisting Union troop navigation of the dangerous shoal. The lighthouse, first lit in 1860, was dark for several years until June 28, 1866, when the parts were recovered and the lens reassembled. The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse is now the oldest existing structure in Palm Beach County.
