Did You Know... Hollywood

Did you know the City of Hollywood, Fla., is named after Hollywood, Ca.?

Planning visionary Joseph Wesley Young, who was once a resident of Southern California, moved to South Florida in January 1920 to create his "Dream City." He purchased a parcel of land along the Atlantic Ocean in southeastern Florida for $175 per acre. His ongoing fascination with Hollywood, Ca., led him to choose the same name for his "Dream City" in Florida. Young's vision was to create "a city for everyone." He included a centrally located business district, large park spaces, a golf course, schools and churches
