Did You Know... Hillsboro Beach

Did you know the Hillsboro Lighthouse has one of the most powerful lights in the world?

Two 1,000-watt xenon high-pressure lamps shine 5.5 million candlepower 28 miles out to sea. This is said to be the most powerful light on the East Coast of the United States. The lighthouse, originally built in 1907 and located at the southern end of the Town of Hillsboro Beach, marks the northern end of the Florida Reef. The town itself has no streetlights and is only 3.2 miles long.
