Did You Know... Haines City |

Did you know the City of Haines City chose its name to stop a train?
Originally known as Clay Cut, a settlement was established at Haines City in 1883. Although it was located on the South Florida Railroad, the rail company would not build a station and residents could not get the train to stop in their town. The situation continued for four years until locals decided to change the town's name in honor of Col. Henry Haines, who happened to be an official of the railroad. A station was then built and the trains began stopping. The City of Haines City is known as "The Gateway to the Scenic Highlands."
