Did You Know... Clermont

Did you know the landmark Citrus Tower is located in the City of Clermont?

Constructed in 1956, the Citrus Tower will celebrate its 50th anniversary with the City of Clermont in 2006. The tower sits on one of the highest hills in Florida and rises 226 feet, well above the orginally planned height of 75 feet. Built with 5 million pounds of concrete and 149,000 pounds of reinforcing steel, the tower can withstand winds of more than 190 miles per hour. The glass-enclosed observation deck near the top of the Citrus Tower offers a view of portions of Lake, Orange, Polk and Sumter counties. On clear days, the view spans all the way to Pasco, Osceola, Seminole and Hernando counties as well as glimpses of Orlando and Disney World.
