April 24, 2008: Mayors Visit Capitol to Protect Local Citizens from State Mandates The Florida League of Mayors (FLM), led by their president, Mayor Steve Feren of the City of Sunrise, spent today at the Capitol to speak with lawmakers about their concerns regarding several legislative proposals that threaten to strip local citizens of their authority and impose huge unfunded mandates that dictate the choices of local communities.

January 15, 2008: FLC President Campaigns across I-4 Corridor Highlighting Unfairness of Amendment 1 The Florida League of Cities campaigned against Amendment 1 through the I-4 Corridor today with events in Oldsmar, Winter Springs and Port Orange, warning that Amendment 1 would create an unfair, unequal tax system that would punish many Floridians – especially young families and first-time homebuyers – who would be forced to pay property taxes many times higher than neighbors living in a similar home.
January 11, 2008: Florida League of Mayors Joins Chorus Opposing Corporate-financed Tax Amendment The Florida League of Mayors took a stand today in strong opposition to the Amendment 1 tax plan, urging voters to weigh who supports and who opposes the plan to infer who is likely to benefit from it and who is likely to be punished.

December 18, 2007: Mayors to Citizens: Vote “NO” on Flawed Tax Scheme Today, the Florida League of Mayors joined an ever-increasing number of groups who oppose Amendment 1, the January 29th tax plan that will be decided by Florida voters. Stephen B. Feren, president of the Florida League of Mayors and mayor of Sunrise, denounced the Legislature’s property tax plan today as an “unfair tax debacle that would hurt young families and schools and small community businesses.”
December 14, 2007: League Urges Voters to Reject Unfair Tax Plan Pembroke Pines Mayor Frank C. Ortis, president of the Florida League of Cities, condemned the Legislature’s property tax plan today as an “unequal, unfair tax shift that will punish young families, punish our schools and make it more likely that many will pay higher taxes than their neighbors to live in the same-size home.”

December 5, 2007: $10.5 billion Needed for Local Parks A new report released today suggests that the need for local parks like these isn't waning, it's growing. Local park departments have documented $10.5 billion they'll need to acquire land for new parks and maintain existing parks.
